Kelly Irving : Visual Artist
I'm a visual artist living in an Arcadia: Pender Island, BC. Although I love my home I also love to travel. Visual input is of primary importance in my life: it feeds my visual output. Home and foreign landscapes, cosmopolitan galleries and graffited walls influence my work. And all those people...
Since an extended stay in Ho Chi Minh City in 2010, when I had an opportunity to work in a large space and focus on new ideas, I've explored creating layered, 3D artworks. Partly influenced by memories of Asian artworks I'd seen as a child and missing the physicality of drawing, painting and sculpting I began merging traditional media with the digital media I'd begun using in the early '90s.
In 2011 I began exhibiting with another Pender Island artist, Joanna Rogers. Besides one annual exhibition of new work on Pender Island we also exhibit in a variety of venues on and off-island. A blog, named after our annual show, tracks our various exhibitions and random thoughts: Same, Same but... Different.
